Recent instability

We recently rolled out a product release that had some unfortunate side-effects. While it brought considerable improvements in the way we handle bot configurations and webhook configurations, it had the unintended result of making webhooks unavailable for use in bots for a short period of time. It's all fixed now, but we would be remiss if we didn't let you guys know what's up and that we are implementing better, automated QA processes to prevent these events from happening again.

  • Overhaul of the widget styling section
  • New highlighted Webhook Templates

Debugger

Is your conversation flow not quite right? Are bugs cramping your style? 
 
When something goes wrong in the flow of your chatbot, it can be tricky to find out where exactly where the issue lies. Wouldn't it be great if you had a tool to help you with these unfortunate situations? Well, guess what:
 
We're excited to introduce our brand-new Debugger. It's a tool that will allow you to see where your flow went wrong, and quickly remedy the problem. From today, you will be able to access the Debugger when testing your bot. 
The tool is especially useful for diagnosing issues with your bot before it goes live, so make sure you use this before unleashing your bot on the world.

Widget styling overhaul

We've added several, new ways to customize the styling of your widget.
 
It is essential for us as a company that we design a product that everyone can experience. Because of this, we've expanded the styling options and prioritized options that improve not only the visuals but the accessibility of the widget. It is our hope that this will help create a better experience for end users with disabilities.
 
It's still a work in progress, and we expect to add more options soon that will provide you with the tools you need to design your widget in a way that complies with the latest Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
 
We've also changed where the styling is handled from.
 
The way that it will work now, is that you'll no longer need to update every single widget script on every page you've embedded it on when you want to make a change to the styling. Everything is handled from Bot Settings, and all widget scripts automatically fetch the new styling parameters from the platform.
 
You might be wondering what happens if you have different parameters defined for the widget on different pages, like if you want the size of the widget to be bigger on one page, and smaller on another.
 
No need to worry, you can still set specific parameters for different pages. If the widget script you've embedded on your page differs from the standard, unedited widget script, that's the way your widget will be rendered on that page.

Highlighted Webhook Templates

This time, we've added some Webhook Templates that will help you with fetching data from the conversations happening in your Zendesk channel.

 

The first template is Zendesk Chat Get Latest Chat by Email, which allows you to fetch the most recent chat ID for a given email. This template provides the chat ID that the following template uses to fetch the latest chat data.

 

The second template is Zendesk Chat Get Chat Data by ID, which can be used to fetch all chat data for a given email. This means that you can fetch information such as a chronological list of the messages in the chat, the tags associated with it, or the list of pages that the customer navigated to during the chat.

Bug fixes:

This release brought with it a lot of bug fixes, far too many to mention. These are the important ones:
 
  • Fixed: A change in the webhook & bot configuration led to webhooks being unavailable for use in bots.
  • Fixed: Users were met with "Failure to update bot configuration" when saving a bot or uploading data to the NLU.
  • Fixed: After saving a webhook created from a template, it would ask for authentication credentials even though the credentials were already provided in the template.
  • Fixed: Users were unable to reset their password on the platform.

Known bugs:

  • The BotXO Widget does not appear for users that use Internet Explorer. If the widget is embedded in an iframe, the widget is viewable.
